The Bhavachakra - Wheel of Life Thangka Tibetan Painting Hand painted
Ancient Buddhist art - thangka (also known as thanka, or tanka) is a unique and deeply spiritual form of Asian art, spread in Northern India, Nepal, Tibet and some other areas. The word can be translated as “recorded message”.
Traditionally, art of thangka had only been studied by men during their spiritual journey in Buddhist monastery, however, these days there are also female artists, who inherited skills and talent from their fathers.
Thangka works depict great Buddhist teachers and deities surrounded by other important religious icons or those, intended for meditation, have a form of mandala.
This painting (22x27 cm / 8.6x10.6 inches) represents Wheel of Life or Wheel of Becoming, The Bhavachakra - the Buddhist view of the Universe.
Wheel of Life painting can be used as a marvelous symbolic wall art, as well as a meditation and concentration tool.
We are collaborating with one artist from Nepal, beautiful girl Niru.
Niru, young and very talented thangka artist, Nepalese by origin, she settled down in India with her child and husband. Her father studied the art of thangka in Buddhist monastery and passed his skills over to his daughter. Dedicated her life to painting, Niru spends all days, from dawn to dusk, in her studio, located very near to His Holiness the Dalai Lama residency in Indian Himalayas.
Niru is using cotton canvas prepared by her family. Thangka canvas preparation is a serious and time-consuming process, which includes washing, drying, stretching of the medium.
Each piece is unique, 100% hand painted, using handmade organic plant-based paint. Its ingredients and recipe is kept in secret and being passed from the teacher to a student only. 24-karat gold is used to achieve real gold look and feel.
